Q. What is an affiramtion?

Answer.   

1. The practical application of faith.

They are a tool to change fear (negative faith) into positive faith that aligns with God’s thinking about and for us. 


2. They challenge negative self-talk and replace unhealthy messages we caught as children with life-affirming statements that help us incorporate the 12-steps into our lives.


3. They help us see ourselves and others as God sees us.


4. They foster trust in God.

The Eleven Ellements of Powerful Affirmations

   

 

1. Keep them Personal

 

2. State them in Positive terms

 

3. State them in the Present tense as though it exists

 

4. Indicate achievement “I can/do” vs. “I will try”

 

5. Make No comparisons with others

 

6. Use Action words (vividness)

 

7. Use Emotion words (feelings)

 

8. Be Accurate (don't overshoot nor undershoot)

 

9. Be Balanced in all areas of one’s life

 

10. Keep them Realistic (not perfect)

 

11. Keep them to yourself

Sample Affirmations

   

I express myself well and I know others respect and listen to my point of view.


I have a positive expectancy of reaching my goals, and I bounce back quickly from

temporary setbacks.

 

I am resilient.


Because I like and respect myself, I am warm and friendly towards all I contact. I treat everyone with consideration and respect.


I am kind and compassionate and gentle with myself. I forgive myself when I make mistakes.


I actively listen to ________________ (my child, spouse, friend) and enjoy their company.


I am a unique, precious creation of God with value, no greater than or less than anyone else.


I make mistakes but am not a mistake.


I learn from my mistakes and get better as a result of the lessons learned.

 

I protect myself and have the right to reject ideas, people and circumstances that are not healthy and life affirming.


I am more mature today than I was yesterday and will be more mature tomorrow.


I have needs and wants and know the difference.


I treat myself with respect and see myself through God’s eyes.


I treat my wife with dignity and respect, I see her through the eyes of God as I do myself.


I respect my daughters and son and speak with them in loving ways.


I have good ideas and communicate them well with others.


My coworkers listen to me and treat me with respect.


I acknowledge my feelings as legitimate feelings and decide which ones to follow and which to ignore for now.


I create the environment that is healthy for me and others.


I do for others what they can’t do for themselves after I ask their permission to offer assistance.
